Building a Referral Network as an NDIS Provider
Most NDIS growth comes through relationships, not ads. How to build and nurture a referral network of support coordinators, plan managers and LACs - and turn one-off referrals into a reliable pipeline.
Ask any established NDIS provider where their participants come from and the answer is rarely 'advertising'. It's relationships - support coordinators, plan managers, local area coordinators and other clinicians who trust you enough to send someone they're responsible for. A referral network is the most durable growth channel you can build.
Know who refers
- Support coordinators - they match participants to providers; being easy to work with is everything.
- Plan managers - they see many participants and value providers who invoice cleanly.
- Local area coordinators (LACs) - community connectors who know local needs.
- Other allied health providers - cross-referrals across disciplines you don't offer.
Make yourself easy to refer to
Referrers refer to providers who make their life easier: a clear public referral link, fast acknowledgement, honest waitlist information, and a real human who responds. Every friction you remove from the referral makes the next one more likely.
Nurture the relationship
- Track every referrer - role, region, the disciplines they care about, and your last contact.
- Close the loop: tell the referrer (with consent) that the participant was seen.
- Check in regularly, not only when you want something.
- Notice who refers most and invest there.
From contacts to a pipeline
A list of names isn't a network until you manage it. Knowing who to follow up this week, who's gone quiet, and which referrers send the participants you're best placed to help is what turns goodwill into a predictable flow of work.
In the NDIS, your reputation with referrers is your marketing budget. Spend it by being reliable.
Tasklith's Relationship Manager is built for exactly this - a CRM for support coordinators, plan managers and referrers, with interaction history, follow-up reminders, region and interest filters, and a link to the participants each referrer has sent you. The spreadsheet, finally, as software.
